Working with Afghan Sanctuary Seekers: A guide for mental health professionals

07 Dec 2022

The Qualitative Applied Health Research Centre recently supported the development of a guide for mental health practitioners working with Afghan sanctuary seekers. This guide was co-produced with Paiwand, the Afghan Academy and the Afghan Association of Healthcare Professionals. It provides the first country specific guide to supporting sanctuary seekers, focussing on how to initiate mental health conversations, understand Afghan conceptions of mental health, and offer culturally relevant treatments. We launched the guide in a seminar thinking about the importance of culture in mental health services and treatment, and will be supporting the group to develop their forthcoming training package.
