Dr Angela Sweeney
Dr Angela Sweeney is a survivor researcher and Senior Lecturer in User Led Research in the Service User Research Enterprise, Health Services and Population Research Department, Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience. She identifies as a trauma survivor and conducts research from that perspective. Her research interests include gender-based violence, trauma and trauma-informed approaches, pregnancy and the perinatal period, survivors' perspectives on and experiences of psychiatric services and treatments, and alternatives to biomedical psychiatry including trauma-based and sociocultural models of causation.
Angela’s areas of qualitative methodological expertise include common methods of data collection (interviews, focus groups) and analysis (thematic analysis, grounded theory) as well as dyadic data collection and analysis, secondary data analysis, qualitative systematic reviews and qualitative outcome measure development. Angela also has extensive experience of bringing survivors’ voices into data analysis and interpretation.
